Carnivals in the Caribbean are way outside of what a North American person would vision as the definition of the term. Carnival is color, Carnival is Mas, Pageantry and Music! All in all, a non stop party! Who would be upset with that? There are many different aspects to Carnival including pageants and other musical competitions which all culminate in a street parade at the end of it all where people are adorned in beautiful costumes and dance through the streets as we celebrate FREEDOM!
Carnival in the Caribbean is a cultural festival that celebrates the abolition of the Slave Trade, where the slaves used to play 'dress up' to mock or imitate plantation owners and slave drivers. Over the years these costumes have evolved in many ways and many carnivals have become big tourism influences on the Caribbean Marketplace.
